George Lopez

Multi-talented and wildly popular entertainer and comedian George Lopez brings his It’s Not Me, It’s You comedy show to The Mahaffey Theater for a mid-summer performance Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m.
The show is a presentation by The Bill Edwards Foundation for the Arts.
George Lopez, whose career spans standup comedy, sitcom television, film and late-night TV, is one of the premier comedic talents in the entertainment industry who is praised by both audiences and critics alike.
After several years of performing standup, Lopez, in 2002, co-created, wrote, produced and starred in Warner Bros. Television’s groundbreaking hit situation comedy, George Lopez, which ran for six seasons on ABC. Today the show remains a hit with viewers in syndication on both broadcast stations and cable’s Nick at Nite, ranking as one of the top-rated shows on the network and among the top five comedies and top 20 weekly programs in syndication.
Lopez debuted his acclaimed comedy concert, Why You Crying? on Showtime in 2004, filmed two HBO Comedy Specials (the first in 2007, America’s Mexican and in 2009, Tall, Dark and Chicano) and earned a Grammy® nomination in 2004 and 2006 for Best Comedy Album.  His autobiography, Why You Crying? made the New York Times Bestseller Top 20 list.
Lopez has received many accolades: Named by Time magazine as one of the “25 Most Influential Hispanics in America” and by the Harris Poll as one of the “Top Ten Favorite Television Personalities, Lopez was honored with an Imagen Vision Award, the Latino Spirit Award and the National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact Award. He has been a popular co-host for the Emmy Awards and a two-time host of the Latin Grammys.
Lopez has also been recognized for his extensive charity work. He received the Manny Mota Foundation Community Spirit Award and was named Honorary Mayor of Los Angeles for his fundraising efforts benefiting earthquake victims in El Salvador and Guatemala.  In 2009, he founded the Lopez Foundation “to create a positive, permanent change for underprivileged children and adults confronting challenges in education and health and increase community awareness about kidney disease, organ donation and the military.”
The voice of George Lopez has played the character Rafael in the animated blockbuster, Rio, and “Grouchy Smurf” in The Smurfs. Other film credits include Valentine’s Day, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Swing Vote, Henry Poole is Here and Balls of Fury
