Morrissey fans rejoice! The iconic indie music innovator returns to St. Pete.
Morrissey will be joined by longtime band members Boz Boorer and Jessie Tobias, both guitar, Solomon Walker, bass, Matthew Walker, drums and Gustavo Manzur, keyboards and special guest Kristeen Young, singer/songwriter and keyboardist.
Morrissey soulfully sang for the 1980s English rock quintet The Smiths and began a solo career in 1988 with the release of Viva Hate. Riding high as a solo artist, Morrissey’s soft slurs, harmonious screams and strong British voice are still known to be his best art.
His recent Autobiography became one of the fastest-selling memoirs in the United Kingdom upon its October release, setting first week sales records when it entered the U.K. charges at No. 1. Morrissey lyrically snarls about his adolescence and musical obsession giving the reader a look into his darker side. This striking journal, not a “tell-all,” gives his dutiful fans a roadmap to dig deeper into his words. Morrissey may be controversial, but his is a man behind his own word.
The Telegraph called it “the best written autobiography since Bob Dylan’s Chronicles” in its five-star review.
The musician is considered “one of the most singular figures in Western popular culture from the last 20 years” by the media. The Telegraph famously wrote that “most pop stars have to be dead before they reach the iconic status he has reached in his lifetime.” Rolling Stone claims that “no one is more Morrissey-esque.”
His new album, his first since 2009’s Year of Refusal, will be released later this year. Can Morrissey be any more “bigger than life?”
Tickets are $55, $69, $79 and $89.50.
