TFO Masterworks: Beethoven & Rachmaninoff
Recognized as one of today’s most gifted conductors and pianists, Ignat Solzhenitsyn will do both, performing Beethoven’s charming and bouncy Piano Concerto No. 2. Also on the program is Rachmaninoff’s forceful and dramatic Symphony No. 1, which for nearly 50 years was given up for lost after a disastrous premiere. The concert begins with Ravel’s Alborada del Gracioso, originally a piano piece that Ravel transcribed for orchestra. It quickly became one of his most popular works.
