Florence B. Price (arrg. Still): Dances in the Canebrakes
Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto
Rachmaninoff: Variations on a Theme of Corelli
TFO Concertmaster Jeffrey Multer powers Mendelssohn’s brilliant Violin Concerto, one of the most popular in history. It was Mendelssohn’s last major work before he died tragically young at age 38. Michael Francis starts off the program with Florence B. Price’s Dances in the Canebrakes, orchestrated by historic composer William Grant Still, with three charming dances that sound a bit like ragtime. The final work is an orchestral version of Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli – which was not really by Corelli but rather an old Iberian folkdance tune – and an obvious precursor to his popular Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

Covid 19 Information: The coronavirus pandemic has forced The Florida Orchestra to rethink everything for our 2020/21 season – from concert repertoire to seating – so that we can bring live classical music back to Tampa Bay safely. It’s a tremendous amount of new information with different rules. We hope this guide will answer some of your questions and help you make your concert decisions.
